Best eSIM for Interrail and Eurail

An Interrail or Eurail trip crosses borders every few days. A Europe regional eSIM keeps you online in every country on one plan, so you can check train times, book hostels and find your platform without buying a new SIM each time.

Tips

Do you need one at all?

If your phone plan is from an EU or EEA country, you can usually roam in the EU at home prices already. A Europe eSIM matters most for travellers from the UK, North America, Asia, Australia and the Middle East, or when your home plan has a small roaming allowance.

Check the non-EU countries

Interrail and Eurail include countries outside the EU, such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey and several Balkan countries. Not every Europe eSIM covers all of them, so check the provider's country list against your route.

Data on the train

Coverage drops in tunnels and some rural areas, and train Wi-Fi is often slow. Download offline maps and your tickets in the Rail Planner app before you set off each day.

How much data?

Maps, messaging, booking apps and some photo uploads use about 0.5 to 1 GB a day. For two weeks that is roughly 10 to 15 GB. Choose unlimited if you stream or work on the road.

Questions

Does one eSIM work in all Interrail countries?

A Europe regional eSIM covers most of them, but coverage lists differ between providers. Countries outside the EU, such as Switzerland, the UK, Turkey and the Balkans, are the ones most often missing.

Is a Europe eSIM cheaper than separate country eSIMs?

For three or more countries it usually is, and it saves installing several eSIMs. For one or two countries, single-country plans can be cheaper.

Can I keep my own number?

Yes. Keep your home SIM switched on for calls and SMS and use the eSIM for data. Check your home roaming charges if you answer calls abroad.
