For a 10 to 15 day Umrah with messaging, maps and some video calls, a 10 to 20 GB plan is usually enough and cheaper than unlimited. If you make long video calls with family every day or share a hotspot with your group, compare the unlimited passes.
Saudi networks such as STC, Mobily and Zain have strong coverage in Makkah and Madinah, but speeds can drop when the crowds are biggest, especially around the Haram during peak times and Hajj days. Send photos and videos later from your hotel Wi-Fi if uploads are slow.
Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi a day or two before your flight and switch it on when you land. Keep your home SIM active for calls and SMS codes from your bank.
If your trip includes a stopover in the UAE, Qatar, Jordan or Egypt, a Middle East regional eSIM covers several countries with one plan. Check that Saudi Arabia and every stopover country is on the provider's list.
Visiting more countries? Compare Middle East and North Africa regional eSIMs from $6.50.
Most pilgrims use 0.5 to 1 GB a day for messaging, maps, the Nusuk app and some video calls. For 10 days that is about 5 to 10 GB. Heavy video calling uses 2 GB a day or more.
Yes. Travel eSIMs connect to Saudi networks, which cover both cities well. Speeds can be slower in very crowded areas at peak times.
WhatsApp messages and calls generally work in Saudi Arabia. Call quality depends on how busy the network is, so in very crowded places a normal phone call on your home SIM can be more reliable.
